IAWRT presents a parallel event “Visual Media: A Political Discredit” at the NGO CSW 70 Forum UN Commission on the Status of Women CSW 70 (2026)
16 | March | 2026
8:30 AM – 10:00AM
11th Floor, Church Center for the United Nations
777 United Nations Plaza, Corner of 45th Street and 1st Avenue
You are warmly invited to join this important conversation on how visual media is increasingly used to discredit women journalists and silence their voices.
Memes, manipulated images, cartoons, and viral videos are often used to ridicule outspoken women in media and public life. These visual attacks spread rapidly online, fueling harassment, normalizing misogyny, and undermining public trust in women journalists.
This panel will explore “visual media as political discredit” — a form of technology-facilitated visual violence with real-world consequences. Speakers will examine how these tactics operate, the gendered impact they create, and how emerging technologies, including AI used without ethical safeguards, are amplifying the problem.
Join journalists, digital-rights advocates, and media experts as they discuss strategies for resistance, protection, accountability, and defending press freedom in the digital age.
